Organized by the Croatian Hypertension League and the Croatian Institute of Public Health, the international symposium titled "Less Salt, More Potassium" was successfully held on December 9, 2024, in Zagreb. The event attracted nearly 400 participants both in person and via the Croatian League for Hypertension’s digital platform.
The symposium brought together leading experts in healthcare and nutrition, as well as representatives of the FMCG industry, including companies such as PIK Vrbovec, Mlinar, Koestlin, and professionals from the hospitality sector, alongside several distinguished experts from various European countries.
The goal of this professional gathering was to raise awareness about the role of table salt and potassium in preventing cardio-renal-metabolic diseases, which are the leading cause of death in Croatia and worldwide. Through scientific and practical examples, the presenters highlighted the benefits of a diet lower in table salt and emphasized the importance of potassium as a key element in preventing arterial hypertension and maintaining cardio-renal-metabolic health.
One of the key points discussed was the announcement of the National Program for Reducing Excessive Table Salt Intake, which is hoped to be finalized by the Ministry of Health and adopted by the Government. This program is recognized as the most effective and cost-efficient primary prevention measure.
The symposium featured numerous experts, representatives from health institutions, and industry leaders who collectively discussed the development of new products and improvements to existing food solutions to promote healthier dietary choices.
The Croatian League for Hypertension continues its efforts in education and the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits through similar initiatives, aiming to reduce the burden of chronic diseases and improve the quality of life for the population.
